Stewardship
Become a good steward of God’s gifts to you. Each Sunday in our parish bulletin, we find these words of Saint Ignatius Loyola:
“Teach me to be generous, teach me to serve you as you deserve, to give and not count the cost, to labor and not seek reward, save that of knowing that I do your will.”
We are asked to be sacrificial givers. No matter what our status is in life, each of us is called to be a Christian steward of all that we receive from God. As a steward we
- Receive God’s gift in gratitude
- Cherish and tend them in a responsible and accountable manner
- Share them in justice and love
- Return them with increase to the Lord
One of the most important aspects of sacrificial giving is that it is not minimal giving, that is, giving the least amount or even what there is left over. Being a good steward involves generosity on our part – a generosity that Saint Ignatius could describe as “to give and not count the cost.” To share our treasure with the Lord and His Church acknowledges our belief that God has given us many blessings and, through His Church, these blessings are revealed.
You are asked to make two pledges: one for the regular offertory and a second for the monthly mortgage collection that we take up the second Sunday of each month. Right now, about 20% of our registered parishioners provide more than 80% of our parish’s operating capital. Will you “take a step in faith” by “putting God first,” not counting the cost, but making a return to the Lord for all His blessings?
